LIZA MINNELLI TO 'SMASH' GUEST ROLE

Liza Minnelli brings her talents to 'Smash'

"Smash" has lined up a smashing showbiz legend for a guest role.
Liza Minnelli will star as herself on the NBC drama, which chronicles the backstage happenings of a Marilyn Monroe-inspired musical, in an episode called "The Surprise Party" that's slated to air in the spring.
The Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe and multiple Tony-winner will sing an original song with Christian Borle, who stars as Tom Levitt, the writing partner and longtime friend of Debra Messing's Julia Houston.
"[W]hat could be more fitting than to have her legendary talent on a show that celebrates a world Liza has dazzled for decades?" said Chairman of NBC Entertainment Robert Greenblatt. "I had the pleasure of working with Liza when we restored her landmark television special ‘Liza With a Z’ at Showtime, and to see her artistry up close and personal is a thing to behold.”
Minnelli's powerhouse vocals aren't all "Smash" has in store. The second season will also feature appearances from Jennifer Hudson, Jesse L. Martin and Sean Hayes.
The series returns to NBC February 5 at 9 p.m. ET.
